About Me

Our souls are hungry for meaning, for the sense that we have figured out how to live so that our lives matter, so that the world will be at least a little bit different for our having passed through it. . . . What frustrates us and robs our lives of joy is this absence of meaning. . . . Does our being alive matter? Harold S. Kushner in "When All You Ever Wanted Isn't Enough

God is mean? -Written by: Mike

Why do people say God is some terrible being, if he exist? They always say why would such a great and loving God create sickness, suffering, death and pain. I have been thinking about this for the past few weeks and I think I have come up with a interesting point of view. So, why would an all loving God put so much suffering in the world? I think it comes down to 2 things. First of all in the beginning, in the garden of eden, everything was perfect. No sin had mared creation, except Satan rebelling against God, but the earth was perfect. So initially there was no pain no suffering and disease. It happened when man chose to sin and eat of the tree of knowlefge of good and evil. In that instant, their eyes were open to what sin was, they believed the serpents deception and went against God's commanment not to eat the fruit. So God did what he promised, he cursed man, the earth and the serpent. The man would always have to work and labor for food, it would no longer be just in reaching distance. Woman would have extreame pain in child birth and also disease and other forms of suffering would be caused. Lastly, the serpant was cursed to crawl on its belly(which explains the legs that snakes have that evloutionst want to say is proof of evolution. Evolution is just ignorance but that is a different subject) So God didn't jsut all of the sudden decide to be the bully with the magnafine glass and make us ants, he jsut fufilled a promise. He said they would surely die if they ate from the tree.

Another interesting idea to consider: If everything was perfect, and adam and eve could not sin, would we truely have free will? If all you knew was goodness and perfection would you really be able to have freewill? IAs soon as Adam and Eve were banished from the garden I think the whole situation changed in a sense of freewill. Even though life seemed bad with deisease and suffering they would have to choose to have fait in God and believe in Him or you could choose to be like alot of peopel and say "God is not a loving God, He is hateful and created all of the bad stuff in the world". God didn't create sin, he just gave us freewill and we chose sin. You can tell how well we are doing with it too. People are sinful and the lack of morals in nowdays society disgust me. We got what God promised would happen. People need to stop being harsh and bitter about disease, I know it is terrible and causes alot of physical and emotional pain but you have to realize that it is part of life and I believe it comes with having freewill.
